Our Philosophy
TARA’s studio goals are to provide the best learning environment for all of our students; we offer a combination of classical as well as contemporary pieces to meet the Royal Conservatory of Music program standards. However those who wish so can only focus their efforts on pop, jazz, and contemporary pieces. We will always strive to tailor the music program to each student and their interests.

The Details
We pride ourselves on maintaining the highest level of focus on the basic skills enabling our students to progress to a higher level in order to achieve the desired results. Whether your dream is to perform classical pieces, record your own tunes, or simply jam in a band - all require the BASICS. Regardless of the route chosen, the basics is a set of skills integral to your enjoyment of the art form. Please check out the Royal Conservatory link below outlining the gold standard for piano pedagogy developed over 130 years.

The Programs
Piano lessons for beginners and kids are focused on developing hearing, rhythm, and sight reading while maintaining a fun, playful atmosphere. As the student progresses, in the intermediate stages the focus shifts to the importance of finger placement, pedaling, scales and key differentiations so the student can play more proficiently. In the advanced stages we combine all of the previously learned skills to achieve confidence in your technique, elevating the skills from playing the piano for enjoyment to a stage performing aspect.

The Instrument
Choosing between a keyboard, digital piano, or a piano could be a daunting task. There are a few factors to consider; what style of music are you going to play, how much are you looking to invest in an instrument, and how often are you going to play the instrument. Keyboard and digital pianos can produce beautiful sound ranges as well as other sounds including a synthesizer however they are geared towards a live performance or a band style of play. These can be purchased at a low cost and ultimately are lightweight as well as easy to move. Although a keyboard can replicate a piano sound, be mindful that there is a true difference such as key weighting and the weight or quality of the sound produced by a large acoustic instrument. Consequently these qualitative differences are felt by the performer and the audience.
